Seed is the basic crucial input for sustainable Agriculture and itself can potentially raise total production by about 15% – 20% depending upon the crop.
Honorable Managing Director, IFFCO assigned Seed Production & Marketing work to Indian Farm Forestry Development Cooperative Ltd (IFFDC) vide office order dated 25th August, 2009.
IFFDC has been undertaking Certified & Foundation Seed Production of Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds, Nutri-Cereals, Fodder, Cash Crops in the state of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttrakhand, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujrat, Telangana and TL Seeds of Vegetable Crops in the state of Punjab to increase availability of Good Quality Seed and thus enhance agriculture productivity.
IFFDC has been nominated as one of the Central Seed Production Agency by Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (Government of India), New Delhi.
IFFDC Seed is being produced on farmer's fields under technical supervision of IFFDC and the State Seed Certification Agency (SSCA). The seed is then processed either in IFFDC's own processing plants or hired processing plants under its supervision as per the “Seed Certification Standards”.
IFFDC has set up It's five Seed Processing Units at Takha, Etawah (Uttar Pradesh), Chapartala, Lakhimpur Khiri, Uttar Pradesh), Rampura Phul, Bhatinda (Punjab), Durjanpur, Hisar (Haryana) and Kota (Rajasthan) with sufficient storage facility are in operation. IFFDC's first Seed Testing Lab (STL) has been established at SPU Chapartala, District Lakhimpur-Khiri (Uttar Pradesh).
During the year 2024-25, Approximate total 3.40 lakhs quintal Certified/Foundation Seed have been produced by IFFDC.
