 Award and Honours

On 2nd October 2011 IFFCO's CSR wing, the Indian Farm Forestry Development Cooperative Limited (IFFDC) was awarded ‘Social Impact Award’ by The Times of India (in partnership with J.P Morgan). It has been chosen by a very eminent jury for the inaugural Times of India Social Impact Award for a Corporate Organisation's Contribution in Livelihoods. The jury appreciated the grassroots work done by Indian Farm Forestry Development Cooperative (IFFDC), its steady expansion and consistent delivery on its promise of wasteland development by creating self-help groups.
The jury comprised: Mr. Nitish Kumar, Honourable Chief Minister of Bihar; Mr. Jairam Ramesh, Honourable Union Minister for Rural Development; Mr. Nandan Nilekani, Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India; Ms. Aruna Roy, National Advisory Council (NAC); Mr. Deepak Parekh, Chairman of HDFC; and Ms. Sunita Narain, Director General of the Centre for Science and Environment.
The deliberations of the jury capped a six-month long selection process, which began with the fixing of eligibility criteria, and was followed by background research. Over 1,500 organisations applied for the Awards, and 38 organisations were shortlisted by a panel of leading domain experts, and field visits by their correspondents and photographers.
The work of IFFDC on livelihood, watershed and agriculture development is bound to stand the test of time, said the expert panel that shortlisted the finalists. "The first thing is that issues of land, water and forests were well-integrated in IFFDC's work with rural communities," said environmentalist Anil Joshi, on the expert panel. "The second important point about IFFDC's work is that it withdrew after setting up the structure. That ensured that local communities manage the projects themselves."
